Day 1 · Quito to Riobamba

Cotopaxi, Limpiopungo and the road south.

Begin in Quito and travel through the famous Avenue of the Volcanoes to Cotopaxi National Park. Enjoy scenic walks around Limpiopungo Lake, observe Andean birds and volcanic landscapes, and continue toward Riobamba.

The supplied itinerary includes lunch in the area before the journey continues south, with an overnight stay in Riobamba.

Day 2 · Riobamba to Cuenca

Chimborazo and the archaeology of Ingapirca.

Explore the surroundings of Chimborazo Volcano before continuing through scenic Andean valleys toward the Ingapirca Ruins. The archaeological stop brings together history, astronomy and indigenous culture.

Continue through picturesque mountain landscapes to Cuenca for an overnight stay.

Day 3 · Cuenca

A full day of colonial heritage, crafts and gastronomy.

Discover Cuenca through artisan workshops, museums, Panama Hat factories, gastronomy experiences and scenic viewpoints. Explore cobblestone streets, flower markets, churches, rivers, traditional neighborhoods and elegant colonial architecture.

Optional visits to nearby villages or Cajas National Park can add another nature component to the experience.

The source itinerary recommends comfortable walking shoes and simple protection for changing mountain conditions.

  • Keep the listed altitude in mind: 2,500 m / 8,400 ft.
  • Temperature range in the supplied notes: 15–25°C / 60–70°F.
  • Afternoon rain is possible; bring a jacket.
  • Wear comfortable shoes for walking portions of the tour.
  • Use sunblock, a hat and sunglasses under the strong equatorial sun.
